The area now known as Holland Park was once the grounds of Cope Castle, a large Jacobean manor house. built in the early 17th century by Sir Walter Cope.
The château was later renamed Holland House in honor of its second owner, the Earl of Holland.
Throughout the nineteenth century, many politicians and literary men such as Disraeli and Lord Byron began to meet at Holland House to discuss politics, and the place quickly became known as a center of political and literary activity.

Unfortunately, Holland House was severely damaged during the Second World War and afterwards, the neighborhood has been transformed into a magnificent park.
An area of Holland House is currently used as a youth hostelThe front terrace is used for the park's annual open-air theatrical productions and classical concerts every summer.
At the 1992 Japan Festival in London, a lush Japanese-style garden was installed near the center of the park, including a pond with resident koi carp, a bridge at the foot of a waterfall and Japanese maples.
Holland Park: plays accessible to all
During the summer months, the theater appears in the center of the park to host incredible outdoor opera performances as part of its Opera Holland Park series.
The theater hosts a variety of performances throughout the summer months, and past productions include:
- Alice in Wonderland
- Madame Butterfly
- Les Misérables
The many things to see in the park
From rose and cherry blossom gardens to a dragonfly trail, wide open spaces and even resident peacocks, there's plenty to see in this park.
While the southern part of the park boasts a variety of sports facilities including a tennis court, golf practice nets, netball and a cricket pitch, the northern part of the park is home to a huge wooded area. filled with all kinds of wildlife, flowers and greenery.
In the center of the park, visitors can take photos of the ruins of Holland House.
If you're visiting at dusk, don't forget to take a look at the impressively decorated fountain in the Iris Garden.

How can you visit the park?
The park is open from dawn to dusk every day of the year, and admission is free.
Tickets for Opera Holland Park can cost between £17 and £70, although children aged 7 to 18 are welcome. can attend a show free of charge.
The theater opens its doors to the general public at 6 p.m. for a 7 p.m. performance. All evening performances end between 10 pm and 10:40 pm.
