Questo tunnel fu progettato dal brillantemente chiamato <strong>Sir Maurice Fitzmaurice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I due tunnel sono stati costruiti dall'equivalente del Consiglio della Contea di Londra per sostenere una forza lavoro di circa 15 persone, anche se ora sono utilizzati da molte persone e sono diventati una sorta di attrazione turistica.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc158030090\"><\/a><strong>Una costruzione eccezionale<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Per scavare il Greenwich Foot Tunnel (e il Woolwich Tunnel, se \u00e8 per questo), i costruttori hanno utilizzato uno scudo per tunnel, che assomiglia a un enorme camion. <strong>con un bunker sotterraneo che lo attraversa.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00c8 interessante notare che il tunnel \u00e8 stato scavato a mano. Gli operai hanno scavato senza sosta, giorno e notte, lavorando a lungo per completare il tunnel.<\/p>\n<p>Si pensa che siano riusciti a scavare circa 3 metri al giorno fino a quando il ponte ha raggiunto una lunghezza di circa 370 metri e una profondit\u00e0 di circa 15 metri.
