Situated on Fleet Street, the historic former London headquarters of the country's leading newspapers, this bar has long been a favourite with the public. a popular hangout for weary hackers in search of sustenance.
Although listed, "The Cheese" is in an alleyway and has the feel of a somewhat derelict pub.
The small part of the pub above the ground consists of a panelled room and a small bar.
A tumultuous history
There's been a pub here since 1538, but it was rebuilt in 1667 after suffering extensive damage in the Great Fire of London. Parts of the lower cellars are even older.
Descending one of the stone staircases, you find yourself in a set of atmospheric rooms with bars of various sizes.
The building formerly housed a monastery and, as such, exists today. a dizzying number of chambers, cellars and tunnels to explore.
All these places have little nooks where you can relax with a drink in hand.
Ye Old Cheshire Cheese: a renaissance in the modern era
It's currently owned by Sam Smith's Old Brewery. Their pubs are unmissable for their beautiful buildings, traditional beers and warm interiors.
There are no big brands, just brilliant offerings from their own brewery in Tadcaster, Yorkshire.
Thanks to them, the place has been given a second life. Today, many regulars and tourists flock here to enjoy the traditional atmosphere.
London's favorite writers' spot
The number of pubs in London claiming to have links with literary figures is nothing short of extraordinary. These include:

In fact, you might think that all the great English classics of the last hundred years were created by while the author frequented such places.
Ye Old Cheshire Cheese: famous customers
Given its apparent age, it's not surprising that Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese claims to have welcomed Charles Dickens, Samuel Johnson and George Orwell within its walls at one time or another.
Partly because of its long list of famous customers, this pub is often considered a Fleet Street landmark.
