You can also see <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/en\/big-ben\/\">Big Ben<\/a> from another angle.<\/p>\n<p>As you probably know, Big Ben refers to the bell inside the tower, not the tower itself.<\/p>\n<p>Here, you can get a typical London photo, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/en\/red-bus-london\/\">red buses<\/a> on the city's bridges. You can also <strong>discover the far reaches of London.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc153518579\"><\/a><strong>A visual on the city's buildings<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Continue your visual exploration and you'll see the Royal Horseguard Hotel, a listed Victorian building overlooking the Thames and once home to MI6 intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>The building was also taken over by the Ministry of Defense during the First and Second World Wars. It is <strong>nicknamed Whitehall Court at the time<\/strong> and was built in the mid-1880s.<\/p>\n<p>Now look towards the Thames and you'll see passers-by crowding around Embankment station and the Golden Jubilee pedestrian bridges.<\/p>\n<p>These were inaugurated in 2002 in honour of the fiftieth anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne.<\/p>\n<p>Commuters using this bridge enjoy magnificent views of the London Eye and Parliament, <strong>a few hundred meters to the west.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc153518580\"><\/a><strong>The view from the London Eye: a look to the East<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Looking further east, the majestic St. Paul's Cathedral comes into view. It occupies an important place in British identity, as it was here that Lady Diana and Prince Charles were married in 1981.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral services were also held for Lord Nelson, the Duke of Wellington, Sir Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc153518581\"><\/a><strong>An exceptional view of London's architectural treasures<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The cathedral was designed by the famous Sir Christopher Wren, one of the most acclaimed English architects in history.<\/p>\n<p>In this capacity, he is also responsible for many of London's landmarks, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Royal Observatory<\/li>\n<li>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/en\/kensington\/\">Kensington Palace<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/en\/hampton-court\/\">Hampton Court Palace<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>St. Paul's Cathedral, however, is considered his ultimate masterpiece.<\/p>\n<p>You'll also enjoy a view of the County Hall building, which today houses<strong> l'<a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/en\/london-aquarium\/\">London Aquarium<\/a> and the London Dungeon<\/strong>and the London Eye 4 D cinema and visitor center.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc153518582\"><\/a><strong>The view from the London Eye: did you know?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The 135-metre-high London Eye, which allows passengers to admire the city over a distance of around 40 kilometers. It's even said that the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/en\/windsor-castle\/\">Windsor Castle<\/a> is visible in the distance on a clear, sunny day.<\/p>\n<p>The wheel contains a total of 32 sealed egg-shaped passenger capsules, one for each of London's 32 boroughs, and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete one full rotation. The wheel <strong>does not stop to allow passengers to enter and exit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Curiously, the modules are numbered from 1 to 33; for superstitious reasons, number 13 has been left out.<\/p>\n<p>The London Eye is not technically a Ferris wheel, because unlike Ferris wheels, it is only supported on one side. As such, it should be a cantilevered observation wheel.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for the London Eye are a little expensive and waiting times can be quite long.
