The first wooden version dates back to Roman times, until a stone bridge was built between 1176 and 1209.<\/p>\n<p>It was fortified and rebuilt several times over the centuries, with an 1831 granite version dismantled and moved to Lake Havasu City in the state of Arizona in the USA, where it is reassembled and still visible. It reminds us of the fragility of the work, its many reconstructions and ideas for repairing it!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Can you visit London Bridge?<\/h3>\n<p>The official London Bridge <strong>cannot be visited<\/strong>You can walk around it or admire it from afar.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, I strongly recommend a visit to nearby Tower Bridge!<br \/>\n<a name=\"2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tower Bridge, London's most famous bridge!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Too often confused with London Bridge, <strong>Tower Bridge<\/strong> is a few hundred metres further down, in front of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/en\/tower-of-london\/\">Tower of London<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It's a bascule bridge, <strong>built in 1984<\/strong>This was the time when the growing population of the East End required the construction of a new crossing over the Thames. And the idea for a bascule bridge came from the fact that a conventional bridge would have prevented larger ships from crossing to the nearby port of <em>Pool of London<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It is easily recognizable, with <strong>its two towers<\/strong>its imposing dimensions (244 metres long and 65 metres high) and <strong>its neo-Gothic style<\/strong>The building is modelled on the architecture of the medieval fortress of the Tower of London, so as not to stand out in the landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Several times a day, <strong>the bridge opens<\/strong> to let the boats through, a process that takes around 1.30 minutes. Here's what's in store!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The glass walkway<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If the lower part is reserved for road and river traffic, <strong>a glass walkway<\/strong> was built at the top, between the two towers. At a height of 40 metres, it offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p>To complete the experience, glass slabs have been installed on the footbridge, so that visitors can see the sieve and the void. Those afraid of heights are warned!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The engine room (via Tower Bridge Exhibition)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Your reward for crossing the footbridge is access to <strong>the machine room<\/strong>. Otherwise, feel free to observe this event from afar, by leaving it to chance or by consulting the updated schedules on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.towerbridge.org.uk\/lift-times\">the official website<\/a>.<br \/>\n<a name=\"4\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>How do I get to London Bridge?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>London Bridge can be found at the following address: <em>London EC4R 9HA<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You can access it easily via :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/en\/london-metro\/\">metro<\/a>Jubilee line, London Bridge stop. Here's what you need to know before visiting!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Rates and booking<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Adult ticket: \u00a312.30<\/li>\n<li>Children's ticket (5 to 15 years): \u00a36.20<\/li>\n<li>Free for children under 5<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can book your tickets on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.towerbridge.org.uk\/tickets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the official website<\/a> (which also offers guided tours at \u00a327.00 \/ \u00a312.30).
