A very good idea, as the English capital has so much to offer!<\/p>\n<p>But before <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/en\/tourism-in-london\/\">tourism<\/a> in the city, be aware that a new rule of access to the country will come into force <strong>April 2, 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a <strong>ETA electronic travel authorization<\/strong> (for <em>Electronic Travel Autorization<\/em>), required for all French citizens wishing to visit the UK as tourists.<\/p>\n<p>I'll explain how to obtain one, who is involved, and all the rules you need to know, to help you organize your trip.<br \/>\n<a name=\"2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Who needs an ETA for London?<\/h2>\n<p>All travellers previously exempt from visa requirements will have to apply for an ETA.<\/p>\n<p>This concerns <strong>French (and European) nationals<\/strong>For those who do not have a VISA or permanent or temporary resident status. (For those who have already traveled to the U.S., it's the same principle as ESTA).<\/p>\n<p>In detail, ETA is aimed at :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To those who plan to come <strong>less than 6 months in the UK<\/strong>as part of a tourist, study, training or business trip<\/li>\n<li>Those connecting to flights in the UK, even if they do not pass through border control \/ leave the international zone of the airport.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Good to know<\/strong>\u00a0If you're coming to London as a family, you'll need to apply for an ETA for each family member.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1564\" src=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/ETA-londres.jpeg\" alt=\"ETA london\" width=\"600\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/ETA-londres.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/bonjourlondres.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/ETA-londres-300x154.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><br \/>\n<a name=\"3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>How do I get an ETA?<\/h2>\n<p>Here's what you need to know to apply for an ETA. Although authorization will be required as of April 2, 2025, French nationals will be able to apply for an ETA as follows <strong>from March 5, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>What documents are required for ETA?<\/h3>\n<p>For the application, you will need :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your passport<\/li>\n<li>Access to your email address<\/li>\n<li>A means of payment (CB, electronic solution)<\/li>\n<li>A way to send a photo of your passport or scan it \/ a solution to take a photo of yourself<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Where to apply<\/h3>\n<p>You can apply for an ETA online, via :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/apply-for-an-eta.homeoffice.gov.uk\/apply\/electronic-travel-authorisation\/easier-on-the-app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The official page<\/a> dedicated to the British government<\/li>\n<li>The mobile application created especially for the process, available on <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/uk-eta\/id6444912481\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the App Store<\/a> and on the <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=uk.gov.HomeOffice.ho3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Play Store<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"4\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>How much does ETA cost London?<\/h2>\n<p>This electronic travel authorization is subject to a fee and costs <strong>\u00a310.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are no discounts, and adults, children and babies alike will have to pay to obtain an ETA.<\/p>\n<p>Payment is made online, using VISA or MasterCard \/ Apple Pay or Google Pay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Good to know<\/strong>\u00a0Once you have made your request and payment, you will not be entitled to a refund (even in the event of a refusal).<br \/>\n<a name=\"5\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>ETA London: period of validity, operation, limits<\/h2>\n<p>Here is all the additional information you may need about this ETA for London.<\/p>\n<h3>How long is the ETA valid for?<\/h3>\n<p>Once issued, the ETA is valid for <strong>2 years<\/strong>. During this period, you can visit the UK as often as you like, with a time limit between short visits.<\/p>\n<p>Just note that <strong>if you change your passport<\/strong> during this period, you will need to renew your ETA application.<\/p>\n<h3>What can you do with this authorization?<\/h3>\n<p>With this travel authorisation, you can travel to the United Kingdom and stay there. <strong>up to 6 months<\/strong>As a tourist, a student, for business purposes or to visit family\/friends.<\/p>\n<h3>What are the restrictions on ETA?<\/h3>\n<p>You may not stay in the country for more than 6 months, nor may you work there (for yourself or for a company).
