Its name comes from the first house on the street, <em>the Karnaby House<\/em>but its significance is unknown. In the 19th century, this same street became the focus of a <strong>cholera epidemic<\/strong> whose origins are still visible today, via a commemorative water pump.<\/p>\n<p>But what makes Carnaby Street so famous are <strong>its modes<\/strong>The city, its shopping districts and its urban cultures have been born, made and unmade since the 60s.
