It served as a royal residence, prison and armory, and is considered by historians to be the most complete palace in Europe in the 11th century.<\/p>\n<p>You can see <strong>the crypt of the Saint-Jean chapel<\/strong>the impressive armoury with knights' armour (including that of Henry VIII) and <strong>the great hall<\/strong>by taking advantage of the building's atypical architecture.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The ramparts<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Because of its strategic importance, the white tower had to withstand attacks and uprisings. In fact, ramparts were built successively over the centuries to surround the keep. <strong>There are three<\/strong> - exterior, intermediate and interior - for you to explore.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Ancillary towers<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Several towers can be found on the ramparts, and were used by archers (for <strong>the Salt Tower<\/strong>), treasure storage areas and clothing (for the <strong>Broken Arrow Tower<\/strong> or the <strong>Martin Tower<\/strong>) and prison. You can take a tour of the ramparts to discover them all.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The crown jewels<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Many visitors come to the <em>Tower of London<\/em> to admire the crown jewels, stored in the heart of the <em>Jewel House <\/em>with <strong>its 23,578 precious stones<\/strong> stored here. A priceless treasure trove of swords, crowns, jewels, regalia and royal scepters well worth a visit.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The crows!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Large crows are <strong>one of the symbols<\/strong> of this <em>Tower Of London<\/em> and it's said that if they were to fly away, the Kingdom of Great Britain would disappear! There are currently 7 of them living in the tower's aviary, each with a name and one of their wings clipped to prevent them from escaping. They are also watched over by a <em>Ravenmaster<\/em> (who look after their well-being.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The royal chapel of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>These are <strong>the Tower of London chapel<\/strong>This is where you'll find the graves of famous figures who were executed here. In particular, you'll come across the tombs of Tomas More and Thomas Cromwell, major figures well known to fans of English history.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Yeoman Warders (Beefeaters)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>They are the guards of the Tower of London and <strong>they guide visitors<\/strong> by telling them local stories and anecdotes. You'll easily recognize them by their traditional garb, adorned with a sign reminiscent of the reigning sovereign.
