Motown in London
The musical is based on Berry Gordy's 1994 autobiography To Be Loved, The Memories Of Motown.
In 2011, Berry announced that he was working on a Broadway musical based on the book and his experiences creating Motown Records.
While he has a great story to tell, he also wanted to set the record straight on the demise of the famous label.
The resulting show debuted at Théâtre Lunt-Fontanne in March 2013 and won four Tony Award nominations.
After almost two successful years, it closed its doors in January 2015. The following year, it opened its doors at the Shaftesbury Theatre, where it has been performed ever since.

From conception in 1963 to the televised celebration of the 25ᵉ anniversary. Discover how he harnessed his passion for music and built one of the greatest musical empires of the 20th century.

How long does the show last?
Motown The Musical lasts 2 hours and 40 minutes with an intermission. Performances take place :
- At 7:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday
- At 2:30 p.m. Thursday and Saturday

35 artists take to the stage each night. Many play the role of several characters, including the three young performers who appear as Young Berry, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
Berry Gordy is played by Jay Perry. You may recognize Jay from his old TV and pop star days. He was a member of S Club Seven.
Diana Ross is played by Natalie Kassanga. Natalie also played Nala in The Lion King musical from Disney.
