How often do London buses run?
As a guide, most buses in central London run :
- Every 5 to 12 minutes between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m.
- Every 10 to 20 minutes between 11 p.m. and midnight.
The most popular routes have a night bus that runs until the next morning. You'll usually find three or four every hour. After 3 a.m, you may have to wait a full hour.
Where can I get bus timetables in London?
There are several ways of obtaining London bus timetables. Firstly, you can take advantage of a paper map.
You can obtain paper bus timetables from one of London's visitor centers:
- AtHeathrow
- Euston station
- At King's Cross
- Liverpool Street
- Paddington
- Piccadilly Circus
- Victoria
Finally, you can also download the TFL application. The application can locate the nearest bus stop and tell you when the next bus is due.
How to read bus stop timetables?
Reading a London bus timetable is easy. Take bus no. 11, for example. On Mondays, it runs at 5.38 am. Then you'll find a bus every 15 minutes until 6.08 a.m., then every 7 to 12 minutes until 0.24 a.m.. The last bus is at 0.39 a.m.
On site, you can then find section no. 11, which reads "Night bus N11, please see separate sign".
You'll see that n° 11 continues to run all night from 0:53 to 5:22 a.m.. The bus is then called N11 instead of 11.
Most stops include a small route map showing where each bus goes from that point.

Is it safe to travel on night buses?
Travelling by bus late at night is generally safe, but it can be a little intimidating. Some late-nighters may use the bus service. However, they are rarely violent.
If you want to play it safe, always sit down near the driver's cab. You may also want to remove your headphones to be aware of what's going on around you.
