The site on Hawley Crescent has seen a succession of establishments try and fail in recent years. So there's real enthusiasm for Poppies as a safe bet for the location.
A lovingly recreated 1940s ambience
A Wurlitzer jukebox stands on the first floor, while the sturdy Thomas Crapper adorns the toilets.
Hand-painted murals on the walls offset the genuine 1940s panels and images, while waitresses stroll around in well-cut period uniforms from Camden Lock market.

Hyperlocal sourcing was of paramount importance to the Poppies team. Even the lagers and bottled beers come from Camden Town Brewery.
Their first branch stocked fried fish from Pop's East End fishmongers.
For the move to Camden, the market, music and industrial heritage took center stage.
An authentic culinary experience
The only non-local ingredient in the Camden branch is the fish. It comes from the popular third-generation company T Bush in Billingsgate.
The classic light cod, moist and plump under its thin, crispy batter. Haddock is just as fresh, though less textured.
Carefully selected side dishes and beverages
The peas have a rich, leguminous flavor, while the pickles and pickled onions, beautifully presented, add new layers to the dishes they accompanied with their delicately acidic edge.
All fish can also be served grilled, which makes it possible to makes it potentially the healthiest of fast-food options.
A short but well-chosen drinks list includes almost all wines available by the glass, while soft drinks are all in thick glass bottles.
The six-seat bar tucked away at the rear of the first floor also has the potential to serve as a fun, if hectic, cocktail stop, on the Camden road.
