The War Rooms are where Britain's greatest Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, led the Allied response against Hitler.

If you're interested in the Second World War, you'll love exploring the secret underground rooms and corridors of the famous War Rooms.

A mythical London venue

During the Second World War, a group of basement offices in Whitehall served as the center of the British war effort.

The complex, known as the Cabinet War Rooms, was occupied by prominent government ministers, military strategists and Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

After the devastation of the First World War, military planners feared up to 200,000 casualties from bombing in the first week of a future war.

Plans to evacuate the Prime Minister, Cabinet and essential staff from London were drawn up as early as the 1920s. A veritable emergency shelter in central London.

In June 1938, the building was relocated near Parliament, benefiting from a solid steel structure and a large basement.

What are the opening hours?

You can visit the museum :

• Every day 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Please note that the last admission is at 5 pm. Make sure you get there early enough to enjoy the whole museum.

To visit this museum, you must pay an admission fee. It costs :

• 27,25 £ per adult
• 13,60 £ per child

Admission is free for children under 5.

How long does a visit to the War Rooms last?

The War Rooms and the museum can be explored in an hour and a half. But if you want to read every interactive display carefully and study every element closely, it will take about 3 hours and 30 minutes.

So 2 hours and 30 minutes will give you enough time to absorb a considerable amount of information and see all the exhibits at a comfortable pace.

You may wish to spend most of your visit in the War Rooms, where Winston Churchill led the war effort.

This is obviously a very important section of the bunker. The rest of the Churchill Museum will take approximately one hour.
