Some of the most romantic hotels of the world can be found in London's Old Town.
Today, I invite you to discover them.
Romantic hotel in London: article summary
Romantic hotel in London: the Standard
There are many great reasons to stay at the Standard for a romantic getaway:
- It is incredibly well located
- The rooms are very elegant
- There's a rooftop bar and restaurant with a view of the city.
But the most romantic thing about this hotel is the possibility of taking a bath on the balcony. Choose a junior suite with terrace, and have a bottle of sparkling wine delivered to your room. Then enjoy a bath in the an open-air bath overlooking the wealthy St Pancras Renaissance Hotel opposite.
To stay in this place, you must count on approximately £239 per night.
The Hazlitt
After a romantic dinner at SohoYou won't find a more atmospheric refuge than Hazlitt.
Nestled in a modest Georgian townhouse just off Soho Square, this understated hotel feels like stepping into a wonderful era. You'll find:
- Four-poster beds
- Sumptuous silk draperies
- Velvet sofas
Snuggle up by the fire in the living room while browsing the impressive book cabinet, or treat yourself to a drink at the bar. Take it back in your room to drink from the freestanding bathtub.
Fortunately, departure is at midday, so you can enjoy breakfast in bed.
To enjoy this place, you must count on about £179 per night.
Romantic hotel in London: the Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard
At the Shangri-La Hotel At The Shard, you have the sensation of being separated from the real world, like floating in space.
At the top, you can sip champagne over tea, dine above the clouds at the Aqua Shard or enjoy one of London's most romantic restaurants.
The rooms are elegant and contemporary, with Japanese cherry blossom motifs. They feature huge beds and walk-in showers.
But the best thing about this place is the picture windows and the breathtaking views of London and the hills beyond.
Rooms are a little expensive, however, and you'll have to reckon approximately £595 per night to stay at this location.
NoMad London
One of my favorite hotels in the city is also one of the most romantic places in London.
In the middle of Covent Garden, just across from the iconic curves and gaps of the Royal Opera House, NoMad brings freshness with a large restaurant in the central atrium.
Rooms are elegant and nostalgic, with bathrooms hidden behind discreet screens, tactile velvet upholstery and shimmering gold mosaic bathroom tiles.
Here you can count on from £356 per night for the NoMad experience.
Romantic hotel in London: Room by Anthony Gormley
Prepare for a romantic date by taking her to spend the night inside a real work of art.
Room by Anthony Gormley looks like a fat, crouching figure perched awkwardly on the outside of the Art Deco building at Mayfairbut the interior is a different story.
The rest of the suite is in harmony with the rest of the hotel. But behind a black velvet curtain and at the top of a spectacular staircase, the bedroom is a dark, quiet, private space.
To enjoy this place, you must count on about £700 per night.
Mandrake
Enter this romantic hideaway through a dimly-lit tunnel and discover an open-air courtyard adorned with cascading plants.
Head straight to the bar for botanical cocktails infused with ingredients from the hotel's greenhouse on the top-floor terrace.
Then, after tasting and dining, retire to the Mandrake suite, featuring a freestanding bathtub in the Carrara marble bathroom and a tented king-size bed.
You must count on approximately £298 per night.
Romantic hotel in London: Zetter Townhouse
You leave the real world behind when you leave St John's Square in Clerkenwell and enter the delightfully eccentric Zetter Townhouse Cocktail Lounge.
Considered one of London's most romantic bars, the Salon is packed with collections of curiosities, taxidermy and Victorian surrealism.
These imaginative accessories continue upstairs in the bedrooms. The mid-range "Townhouse Deluxe" rooms are particularly attractive. They feature brightly colored walls, rich textiles and stunning beds.
You can reside here for approximately £196 per night.
There are many other romantic hotels in London. However, by choosing one of the establishments I recommend here, you can be sure of a good night's sleep in the English capital.
