The Cahoots

Sushisamba in London: a journey up the Heron Tower

After a short walk from Liverpool Street stationYou'll arrive at the glittering Heron Tower. This is where you can begin your culinary adventure, in London's third-tallest building.

Once there, head for the long red velvet carpet marking the entrance to the Heron building and the Sushisamba elevator.

The elevator ride up to the 38ᵉ floor is awesome. Sushisamba is accessed by a glass elevator on the Heron Tower side and the views, both out over the city and horizontally, are incredible! In just a few seconds, you will arrive at Sushisamba.

A restaurant with a view

The bar, with its breathtaking views of the Gherkin and the city, is the ideal place to enjoy a drink before or after dinner. If you're looking for a great experience, I'd recommend staying all evening and admiring the view.

The restaurant itself is magnificent, with high ceilings, large windows and a breathtaking view of London. You'll be as soon as you arrive.

However, expect to discover a kitchen that's even more beautiful than the environment you're in.

Sushisamba in London: breathtaking dishes

The menu includes small and large plates, a variety of sushi and traditional Japanese charcoal-grilled dishes.

You can opt for wagyu gyoza to start with, as well as salmon sashimi and nigri, and salmon nigiri. a Tiger Maki Samba roll for the main course.

Afterwards, head to the terrace for a cocktail while admiring the view of the city. The outdoor terrace, with its panoramic views, is undoubtedly Sushisamba's main selling point, and London is the star of the show.

My review of Sushisamba in London

Sushisamba is a beautiful place both inside and out. The bar and restaurant have funky interiors and beautiful decor and the views from the outdoor terrace are incredible.

As expected, Sushisamba offers a sushi formula, cooked to perfection with simple ingredients:

• Top-quality fish
• Perfectly cooked rice
• A beautiful presentation

However, it's expensive and you can quickly reach £100 without really realizing it.

City views generally come at a price and well worth the establishment's high prices!

To enjoy a meal on site, you need to go to this place:

• Sunday and Monday 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
• Tuesday to Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 0:30 a.m.

The 39ᵉ floor salon opens Monday to Saturday from 4 pm. Under-18s not allowed in Sushisamba bars and lounges.

To enjoy the meals offered here, I advise you to be well prepared. Proper attire is required on entry. If you arrive in a T-shirt or jogging suit, expect to be refused entry.

One of the best places to have breakfast in London has to be The Wolseley. Located in a large converted 1920s car showroom in Piccadillythis beautiful restaurant also serves an average breakfast.

The restaurant is famous with celebrities, but Wolseley is also welcoming to ordinary people.

The breakfast menu is simple and delicious. The menu includes :

Le Regency Café

It has been used as a location for films such as Layer Cake and Brighton Rock and has featured in a number of BBC series, including Judge John Deed and London Spy.

The breakfast is excellent and presents itself as a bargain. Choose the breakfast offer or compose your own dish by choosing everything, from liver to bacon to hash browns.

Breakfast in London: Dishoom

One of the best breakfasts in London is undoubtedly to be found in the Indian chain Dishoom. Founded in 2010 by cousins Shamil and Kavi Thakrar, Dishoom is now one of London's most popular restaurants, thanks to its their intelligent approach to Indian food and drink.

The most popular breakfast is the Big Bombay, a mixed plate :

• D'akuri
• Smoked bacon
• Peppered Shropshire pork sausages
• Masala beans
• Mushrooms
• Roasted tomatoes
• Buttered homemade rolls

I recommend you try the sausage naan rolls, it's a real delight.

Duck & Waffle

For breakfast with a view, take the elevator to the 40ᵉ floor of Heron Tower. to the Duck & Waffle.

This high-rise restaurant is located in the financial district and is open 24 hours a day. Although it never closes, it's for breakfast that you'll want to make a reservation.

The signature meal is the eponymous Duck and Waffle, a traditional waffle served with duck leg, fried duck egg and topped with mustard maple syrup.

Other breakfast options include:

• Shakshuka
• Colombian eggs
• Duck egg casserole

Healthy breakfast options are also available in the form of yoghurts, granola and fruit salad.

A second Duck & Waffle is located on Haymarket Street and serves the same food, but without the view.

Breakfast in London: 26 cereals

If you're looking for healthy breakfasts, turn to around 26 cereals in Neal's Yard.

The breakfast menu is fantastic. Choose the 5-grain porridge topped with banana, tahini, honey, cinnamon, sesame seeds and cocoa nibs.

You can also try caramelized brioche, which may not be very healthy, but is delicious.

Savoury options include :

• Fried eggs with Ras el Hanout
• Toasted bread with wild garlic, basil and mushrooms
• Asparagus sautéed with pancetta, peas and raw goat cheese
• Pickled radishes on sourdough bread.

Le Café Norman's

Norman's appears to have been in business for decades, but in reality this quintessentially British venue only opened its doors in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic.

The café's interior is small and simple, with a black-and-white checkered floor, red-and-white checkered fabric curtains and white Formica tables, the must-haves of every good British breakfast.

The menu is simple and does not deviate from the theme of the place. On site, you can enjoy :

• Egg
• Fried potatoes
• Grilled tomatoes
• Beans

However, I recommend their delicious bacon sandwich. A must if you want to enjoy a healthy, classic breakfast in the heart of London.

Breakfast in London: the Kissa Wa

If you're not looking for black pudding or fluffy crepes, Kissa Wa Cafe is the place for you.

This delicious Japanese café is located behind Highbury Fields and serves traditional dishes inspired by the land of the rising sun.

Their Japanese-style breakfast includes:

• Poached eggs
• Tofu
• Vegetables
• Miso soup

If your heart's in the right place, you can also try the famous natto, a dish made from fermented soy beansprouts.

They also serve homemade granola served with seasonal fruit compote and yoghurt.

London's gay quarter: what's its history?

By the 1720s, the streets of London were no stranger to gay bars. In fact, by the late 1700s, there were more gay and lesbian bars in London than in the 1950s, and numerous accounts of prominent men living openly as homosexuals.

However, testimonials from LGBT people go back centuries before the first gay bars arrived in the 18th century.
